  • I feel bad sometimes when arguments are raised on the stp forums about the majority of scouts doing it for the money and i especially feel that sometimes i'm included in that bracket which is a shame because even though i have good accuracy and four stars i dont just rate my tracks between 4 and 7 i use the whole array of numbers between 1 and 10

Like you say the money is a handy thing to have for bits and bobs but for me its the music, i used to use myspace to find new bands but this is much much better

i guess the money is a bonus, i know i would sit there and do this even if i wasn't getting paid for it, fair enough i would be skipping a lot more tracks than i do just now and i wouldn't sit on it for as long at one go, but getting to hear new stuff is worth it, i'm not on myspace and i have found a lot of the bands on this that i would never have come across before and they're ones that if they ever do gig in the far flungs of glasgow i would def go and see. i know from the stp forums that i lurk around they don't like scouts doing it for the money but 3p a track is hardly life changing is it and stp seem pretty good at putting out scouts that aren't giving constructive reviews, one it's a bit more developed hopefully it will be a good experience for both the artists and the scouts

I think it's really important to write decent reviews though, because at the end of the day those tracks are the product of some very talented, creative people (there are odd exceptions of course!), and they deserve a bit of thought when commenting on tracks.

I'd also like to get to 4 stars too, so I can't say I don't have an ulterior motive when asking people how I can improve my reviews!

    Hi
I try really hard to write meaningful reviews, but sometimes it is just SOOOOO hard to find something to say. I try to comment on arrangement, vocals production quality, whether I would buy it, and what did and didn't work for me in the performance. Last night I was getting a lot of foreign language stuff, so found myself guessing at the language, usually wrong. There was some Icelandic, which was quite awful.

If I find myself being really negative I will make a comment about it not being a genre I am familiar with, I will always do this with heavy metal or punk as I never listen to it except on STP. Hip hop is not something I would buy but my son is into it so at least I know what is good and bad.

Never thought about listener demographics before, but it might be useful to put in. Not sure that a comment about 'pushing 50 Elvis fan' would do a lot for my accuracy though it might give the bands a laugh.

Actually i'm quite lucky i live an hour from london so while its many miles away from you if band do come to this area then i can go see them whoop

This is a general question to everyone on this thread but if you had a handfull of bands that you could choose as your favourites who would they be, who has impressed you ?

I quite like the country too but that's because my husband plays it a lot so I've gotten used to it. I really can't listen to electronic synthesiser stuff though and I've been pleasantly surprised by some hip-hop.

My favourite bands so far have been zenyth, AT88, Puck and Themselves.

Me - soon to be 39 year old Indie loving gal who typically buys all the mainstream stuff.

Ooh lots of zenyth fans then!
I also liked aliquot flow and the racketears. My watch list is growing so need to have a listen through them again to see who my faves are.

Me 26 indie/rock/emo girl. I'm also getting into some of the country stuff and haven't been totally offended by all of the hip hop as I teach and can appreciate what my kids might like.

Adding to previous comments, I would happily sit and do this for hours but the money does help. I always review for what i truly think unless it's a genre I don't understand when I do guess between the 4-7 rule!
Wandered away from the MSE track for a while but am back and on a mission! Debts cleared nearly £18k. Now to start saving ...
