We bought our first home very cheap off the council just before the house boom in 1999 so we did not have a mortgage for very long then my brother gifted me a large amount for a deposit for a second property to put down for my son to help him get on the property ladder but the original agreement was we would pay the mortgage for 2 years and then he would take over the mortgage but through to complicated family issues it just got put aside so we carried on paying the mortgage then my brother his uncle who gifted the deposit died suddenly of a cardiac arrest he was only 46 but after a inheritance battle he was given his business and payed the rest of the mortgage off in 2021 and have came across capital gains which none of us had even heard of as we was never informed by the lender or the solicitor about this0
