You can get different length cables - we got a 10 m charging cable for our new MG4, the previous one for the Leaf was 7.5m. Buying from a non-branded supplier gives you plenty of options and is considerably cheaper. MG would have charged about £250 for a cable (quite why this isn't included in the price of the car is bafflingly annoying, as you certainly need more than the cable to plug into a standard 13A socket that they do supply), I got the 10m one for about £150 ish.
There is a switch on our charging unit, operated by a bicycle lock key, but we never turn it off unless we are going away for a holiday.

That whole strategy is rather broken right now because of the market price movements on cars generally and EV's by one specific manufacturer. We looked recently at the MG5 and did note their "offer" for an EV charger was £1k while another brand was at £500.
In fact, the MG "budget" pitch is starting to look a bit flaky at the moment. Today's web-site price shows MG5 Trophy LR at £33.4k. Tesla Model 3 stock vehicles at £40k (were £38k at one point a month or so ago). MG moved their prices upward when Tesla implemented surge pricing but we have not seen the MG price move downward again now that Tesla dynamic pricing reflects the changed balance of supply and demand.
It makes me recall Sir Alan Sugar many years ago when he launched the PCW9512 and presented how the cable length was important because he had previously bought an alternative computer from a different brand and the cable was only 2m, then the paperwork said not to use an extension lead and it required him to move all the furniture about in his office to use the computer. This was something he said was entirely unforgiveable.
Thank you for confirming the information about lockable charger.0 -
It's extremely unlikely that anyone would both to steal your electricity at ~ £3 per hour in their easily identifiable, £20k+ vehicle.0

Tethered CableMy policeman friend warns that there has been instances of stolen cables from said installations. We most often use 13 amp "granny charger" using free electricity from solar.EV batteries last longest when charged at lowest rates and avoiding fast chargers if possible.0
