Lidl's £29.99 satellite receiver and dish?

Has anyone seen this in their instore leaflet? I haven't yet seen it online, so can't link it - but its in their instore leaflet this week. Can anyone tell me - if I were to buy this - what sort of channels would it get me? It says it's a "digital free-to-air receiver"I have no knowledge of this - so I'd be grateful for any advice?

You would get any " Free to Air " channels from the satellite that it is accurately pointed at and able to receive adequate signal from.

Other than Sky at 28 degrees, most other satellites that are available are mainly foreign channels.

I haven't seen the leaflet so Idont know which version this is - they used to do a home one and a camping version .The home one I got was a silvercrest dvlb 65 and it came with a twin lnb and a nifty sat-finder- you will never know how you managed to live without 400 junk channels before! There are so many channels available that you have to limit what you watch to a bunch of favourites. No ch4 or ch5 but you get film4 itv1, 2 ,3 +4, same for bbc

To be honest, if you are going to use this receiver for Sky, then you may as well get a second hand Sky Receiver from a car boot sale, it will work better on Sky.

  • I am learning French at the moment and I was thinking it might be helpful to have a French tv channel that I could watch from time to time. Does anyone know what French channels I could pick up with this receiver and what satellite they are on? Thanks.

I've seen this offer, it doesn't include the dish, LNB, cabling etc, just the receiver. However you can get these very cheaply on Ebay. If you just want Free to Air stuff inc BBC, then it'll be fine. Unlike terrestrial DTT receivers, you can't pick up Channel 4, E4, Film 4 etc. though as these are still scrambled, you still need a Free to View card (£20) from Sky and an official Sky receiver. I got a Satellite FTA box ages ago, they're quite good fun if you play about pointing your dish at other satellites. There are literally thousands of channels out there!

Sky channels are at 28.2 / 28.5e as are other channels like BBC, ITV, UKTV.

However the satellites aren't owned by Sky, they just lease capacity like the other broadcasters.

The satellites at 28.2e are owned by SES Astra and at 28.5e by Eutelsat.

You'll get over 100 free channels here - BBC, ITV, Film4 etc.

As you say there are many other satellites orbiting the earth, so you'll pick up 1,000+ Free To Air channels in many different languages.

With the right box and right subscription to a non-UK provider, you can pick up Saturday 15:00 fixtures as well as others.

Would have been handy if you was a boxing fan, although Sky Box Office charged £15 for this, it was Free To Air on German TV.
