Nationwide PPI advice P800 (Income Tax refund)

I have a P800 from HMRH saying Nationwide PPI are my agent and my income tax refund will be sent to them. That was over 3 weeks ago and I have not heard anything from NationwidePPiadvice. I called Nationwide PPI advice but was greeted with a message to email them. I have emailed them and they replied asking for my name, address, NI number and copy of HMRC letter. I don’t ever remember authorising them to claim my tax refunds. All I ever signed was for them to be an agent to claim actual PPI refunds. I have the email that has my electronic signature for authorising this and it does not mention anything about giving them permission to claim overpaid income tax. Why would I when I can do that myself without giving away a commission! I feel robbed and dont know what commission they will take or if they will even pay me!
Not sure what I should do? Any advice very welcome!

Sadly you have fallen into the trap. Once you signed up for PPI refunds you effectively nominated them as your agent for every other tax refund you might receive. They will also take a hefty % of any refund you are due. I don’t profess to understand the legality of the situation but I have been told that HMRC will only accept cancellation of the agreement if both you and the agent sign a letter of authority. Turkeys an Christmas springs to mind. Good luck you are probably going to need it.1
