Parcel Courier for UK mainland : 4.5kg

I have just sold an item, for which I guessed the postage using EVRi.
I had assumed it was about £4.50, but ended up paying £5.98
99% of my items I add postage, but for a couple I had free post, so any loss incurred is down to me.
A few years ago I used to use Collect + and even dabbled with Parcel Monkey and other similar sites, but have gotten out of practice now.
Which couriers do folk here use most of the time .. for normal-sized parcels (say 1 ft cubed) and 4.5 kg in weight. I would drop off the parcel at the collection point

It depends on what I'm sending. If it's valuable in any shape or form, it tends to go Royal Mail Tracked/Recorded/Special depending on £££. Sent probably a hundred items in the last year - all delivered, nothing lost or damaged.Evri tends to be my sender of last resort if it's heavy and not worth much. They've lost one item, and damaged one item.I've used UPS and DHL that were both delivered successfully, but more expensive. One item by Parcelforce was damaged beyond repair and not covered by their insurance. (I took the risk)I think you get regional variations in performance as well - so I don't think there's a 'one answer suits all' to this conundrum.0
