"Sirens blared across Hokkaido and residents were told to "evacuate immediately" on Thursday morning."

and would you respond if we received a similar alert? UK Government advice on what to do is farcical

I saw that on NHK news.
Seems they had an missile heading straight for them which could well have been a nuke so they broadcast an alert.
Then when it dropped in the sea a bit short of the Home Islands people complained that the alert was over-reaction.

The people they interviewed seemed ok about it, they just stayed in subway stations or went to work/school a bit late.

My OH went to Hiroshima and was moved to tears by the monuments remembering the nuclear strike in WW2, so I suppose you can see their desire to have a warning system. What you can do in those few minutes is another debate!

NHKworld have a few English language documentaries with survivor interviews on video on demand. If you aren't moved to tears watching one, I'd be very shocked.

I started watching one called 8000 Stolen Futures about the disproportionate number of 11 & 12 year olds killed because they were stood together in the open (they had been mobilised to help demolish wooden buildings to make fire breaks). I didn't get very far. They got a child's uniform out of the Peace museum and showed it to her surviving sister.

It must be very frightening watching North Korea boasting about building nuclear missiles and then "testing" missiles by firing then towards your country.

I turned off all the extreme & severe alerts as soon as I heard about this I don't want my phone blocking by this government propaganda stuff. If something is going to happen there will be nothing we can do about it in most cases.
Someone please tell me what money is

Have you actually read the article you linked to? What 'bother' are you referring to?

    Yes

I am referring to the fact that a lot of people seemed to complain that the alert was an over reaction and not required.

    The Government disagree

As I said, There will be those that turn it off and they will be part of the natural selection process so 'we' can strengthen the gene pool....😉😏

  • I'd say that "natural selection" happens when the government says "everything is ok" but some people don't believe them and flee.

They'll be lots of that before they actually send the emergency alert! By the time you get/don't get that, it's too late.
