Yes. We've both got Government Gateway accounts so I will get the most recent information and send it off with the form. I have the original French pension calculation award statement showing the exact dates he was self employed there so I could send that as well.
Thanks for all your help.0 -
If you post the information up her as well people will be able to confirm how many years are needed and which ones.HeparGirl24 said:Yes. He needs 6 years to reach the maximum. He can only add one year from 2015-16 and earlier, he is limited to 30, the rest must come from 2016-17 and later.

So going back to my original post, if I understand correctly it is not worth contacting HMRC to ask if he can pay class 2 contributions for his self employment in France as that was between years 2010 and 2014, years he can't buy anyway?0
-
He can purchase 1 so would be a saving of around £650.

I'll send in the forms and statements and see what happens. A potential £650 saving is worth the price of a stamp.
Thanks for working it all out for me/him.1 -
The way the French pension works is that while you can take your pension at age 62 if you don't have a certain minimum number of trimestres (was 166 but is increasing) then your pension is paid at a reduced rate (en taux reduit) but if you wait until age 67 then you will receive your pension at the full rate (en taux plein). UK contributions for years when you did not contribute in France can be counted towards the minimum number.HeparGirl24 said:He has a tiny French pension of 135€ a year, awarded when he was 62. Although they counted the UK qualifying years to meet the 10 year qualifying period, France only counted his 2 years salaried work for their pro rata calculation as he did not meet the minimum income when he was self employed to qualify for their "trimestres". Which is why getting a full UK one is so important.0
