Building Regs for Boiler in Garage Conversion

Hi, hoping for some building regulations advice. Currently have a boiler at the back end of the garage (furthest side from the garage door). It's on an external side wall. If I convert the garage to a lounge, would the building regs inspector be happy with the boiler just having a cupboard built around it or would I be expected to plasterboard/insulate the wall behind the boiler/pipes?

If the expectation is that I move the boiler to accommodate the required insulation, I assume I could just partition that part of the garage off and leave it as a non-living space and keep it for storage. A door from the kitchen would still have access to this partitioned boiler section.

They might be okay if there was a thermal envelope around the boiler, but it would probably cost you more to partition it off than re-fit it.

I'm more a fan of doing it once and doing it right than letting the tail wag the dog.

I would agree that it is best to insulate behind the boiler whilst doing the rest of the walls, but.... The boiler would have to be removed & refitted by a Gas Safe engineer, and possibly be subject to current regs for a new installation. Depending on the age of the boiler, that might mean having to replace it. Have a chat with your GS engineer and discuss costs and pitfalls.

What is wrong with external insulation? Eg insulation on the other side of the wall rather than internal insulation.

Thanks never considered external insulation. Will engage local building regs and seek guidance on that option as it would also save losing vital space internally.
