I have been offered a reasonable priced wii, but its the Jap version, will it still work ok ?? or should i avoid it.

Avoid it or you will have to always buy Japanese games (unless you get it chipped). Wiis are region coded, America, Europe and Asia (I think). So you have to buy the correct region games for your Wii.
There is one advantage to a Japanese Wii though, games are usually released earlier in Japan and the US than in Europe.It's my problem, it's my problem

It'll be unlikely that Nintendo with honour the warranty either...0
