Suggestions for a large window

Options
We had this window put in 4 years ago and it's crap. It's tilt and turn as all others were but we're low moving away from them. It lets draughts in and no amount of adjusting the lugs in the mechanism will tighten it uk so I've had to our foam strips in certain points and I think they oversized the window slightly as the hinge practising touches the wall and even marks it if wide open, making decorating / siliconing it etc a nightmare

we've moved away from tilt and turn windows and gone for regular style windows now, and as we've grown to hate this window because of its constant issues, we are looking at options to replace it

my partner thought of just having a large glass pane which would be nice and soon but I worry with just a single regular window on the opposite side of the room we'd be limited in options for airflow in summer.

Does anyone have any suggestions for something of this size?

dimensions are 1758mm width, 2065mm height

Seems like a bit of a no-brainer for French doors!

Whatever you do I wouldn't be going for nearly as many panels because it breaks up the view of the garden. Two would be fine, and use a dummy sash for the non-opening windows so that the proportions remain consistent.

I bet the one you have cost more than it needed to, more panes of glass, two openers etc.

if you were going wild, you could put in a cat flap for puss!

Puss doesn't go out as he's a pea-brained kitten that gets into enough trouble in the house let alone in the forest behind the road 😂 just had to extract him from the dishwasher.

We considered French doors but as we are unlikely to use them as the kittens are so often in the room it feels like a waste and takes us back to the airflow issue. That's why we went with two openers on this window but might as well have had 8 it's that drafty! I think we paid a total of £960 for the window and associated building work (it was a regular height window previously) but think he was a bit of a cowboy, although we did get fensa certs etc

We have a set in the kitchen and have found them to be poor but again, could just be badly installed! I've had to out a load of foam strips in this as well to stop drafts.

French doors would seem the most logical for such a huge window.

Or, rebuild the wall and put a regular window back in? The full size window without doors just seem a little cumbersome to me.

We prefer a more open view into the garden and to let more light in, so bricking it up to put a regular sized window isn't an option we would even consider.

Perhaps reinstalling the ones you have would be the best option.  I can't imagine they were made *that* badly.

The trouble is with tilt and turn windows there are adjustment points in the frame but they only go so far, fully adjusted you can feel a strong breeze next to the window unless I stuff it full of draft excluding foam. It's definitely the frame as if I push the window, the breeze stops. Happens on both sides. If adjust it in the other direction it's far worse.

We'd also have to chase out the walls and replaster because there is no space at all between the hinge and the window, which looks unsightly, and in winter you can feel some air ingress here too. We had him back a couple of times but Sod's Law it was never windy when he would come out so we gave up on it in the end and resigned ourselves to sealing it with foam.

Had 2 other people out to look at it and both said it's a common issue with tilt and turn, and I can believe it because we've had no end of issues with the rest of the windows in the house, so have been getting them changed one by one every few months

OK, so you don't want doors, or tilting windows, or to replace with smaller ones. So I guess it's either sash style or just normal windows.

Personally, I'd still install French doors. But if not, I'd install as large an area of glass as possible to stop your view being broken up, with maybe a couple of small regular top hung windows at the top. I'm guessing 1 large pane in the middle(fixed) with 1 smaller pane either side (fixed) both topped with small opening windows for air flow.

Is it wide enough for 1 fixed panel, 1 sliding door to be practical?

Large panes of glass are heavy. This puts extra loads on the hinges. The hinges you have may not be up to the job for the size of window.
If you are replacing the entire window, would a couple of small openers at the top work ?

I think a touch too narrow for it. Girlfriend wanted that but I think the extra building work to create it will be off putting for the small gain if that makes sense
