You are probably over indulging. He is adulting in his own place now so you should be scaling back. What are you going to do for his partners birthday, buy joint gifts again? Times have changed and unless you are spoiling him for reasons other than his being your son you need to change as well. Sorry if this appears judgemental but my sister married a mammys boy and he found it impossible to mature into a husband.
  • At that age give him half a crown.

Why scale back, just because he no longer lives at home?  I have adult daughters with partners and they still get spoilt and sometimes experiences where they can take either partner or a friend - their choice, its not a joint gift.
Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.

Birthday gifts from parents here is £50 either as something we need/want or cash in a card.

Been that way since our early 20s. We always get asked what we want but as self sufficient adults there isn't an awful lot we need that we haven't already bought.

We tend to just save it towards our next useful purchase/experience and let them know it contributed to that at the time.  This year that eventually took the form of a Ninja Grill which was on offer
