Samsung TV not showing folders

Weird problem with folders not showing on my TV but do show on my PC. So folders on a USB stick that show on my PC do not show when plugged into my Samsung TV however if i copy that folder and rewrite it to the stick it then shows on my TV. This has happened before and i just copied the folders and then rewrote them to the stick but i would like to know why this happens, any idea?
They just disappeared tonight leaving only files that were not in folders visible, absolutely no issues with the stick in 2 PCs.
Even cut the folders from the stick into another location, formatted the stick and rewrote them but same issue, only copies of those folders rewritten to the stick will show on my TV not the originals.
