Regarding Benefits / Marriage Tax Allowance

Hi

I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice please.

Due to my health I no longer work & my husband does. We Have a mortgage.

I have eventually managed to claim PIP & ESA.

I was wondering if there is anything else I could claim which won’t affect anything??
Also is it right I could claim Marriage Tax??

Apologises if these answers are easy to know I don’t always understand everything when it’s not explained to me.

Thanks

No one can "claim" Marriage Allowance.

If you were to apply for it it means you would have a reduced Personal Allowance of £11,310.  Which if you have no earnings or pension income is unlikely to be a problem.

Your spouse would get upto £252 deducted from their income tax liability.

If you decide to apply you need to think about each tax year (you can currently go back to 2018:19) separately and what your income position was in each year as your income could have changed significantly across the years available to apply for.

We applied for the marriage allowance transfer recently and it’s affected our uc and council tax support claims, so if you’re claiming ESA that’s means tested in any way then check everything before applying.
the benefits calculators can help you check if you can apply for anything else, eg depending on what PIP points you have been awarded for moving around then you may be eligible for a bus pass or blue badge, also council tax support could be looked into but the calculator would help you look into it further re anything means tested.
