New products on me, bought on offer from Iceland 4 for £3.

Nestlé Lindahls Protein Pudding Chocolate 140g 87.3% skimmed milk, milk protein, reduced fat cocoa powder 2%, modified maize starch, thickened (pectin), sweeteners (acesulfame k, sucralose). Not keen on the maize starch and sweeteners but the rest of the ingredients are fine. Expiry date 23/04/23

Per pot: 0.8g fat, 9.5g carbs (of which sugars 4.9g) 0.9g fibre, 0.20g salt and 14g protein.

Dark chocolate colour, like old-fashioned chocolate spread. Thick (spoon stands up), glossy, not overly sweet. Tastes like Jello instant chocolate pudding.

Hit with me for an occasional treat.

My Iceland doesn't stock the other flavours. Are there other similar products worth trying ?

Aldi is in the next town, so I will hunt for offers first. Intrigued by protein pancakes for breakfast !

Morrisons in my town, has Nestlé Lindahls raspberry Kvarg 3 for 2.50 so I will try that. Thought about getting some organic fruit and stirring in, as Morrisons has organic blueberries and strawberries on offer two packs for £4

    What does “Protein Pudding,” mean?
Are there legal requirements to use the name or is it a gimmick like “Farm Fresh?”
Milk has protein and so do eggs and flour, so most home made puddings are protein puddings.

There are pease puddings, savoury suet puddings, and black puddings too, with plenty of protein.

Looking at the ingredients, it seems to have extra milk protein added.

I've bought protein shakes and similar for when my partner was too ill to eat, so I can understand why they exist. I've also known body-builder types who are constantly drinking those protein powder shakes who'd probably like this sort of thing. I don't mind new products existing even if they're little use to me, the more options the better.
  • I tried the Lidl ones for a while - they are relatively modest calorific value and gave me a chocolate "hit" but I wasn't mad keen, they kind of tasted like an upmarket blancmange!

Not just milk powder - Ehrmann's protein pudding lemon mousse uses gelatine as a thickener. Chia seeds would have been preferable and added a bit more protein.

    Naturally, I gave it away.

I don't mind gelatine, it's a good source of collagen. Would rather have that than seaweed !

The Arla protein yogurts are on offer at Iceland, so I picked up 8 for £6 for The Other Half. He didn't like the first one he tried but after that, he was sold on them. I'm buying the Pure Nature.Organic Whole Milk 150g Belgian live yogurts from Milk & More on special offer 95p each IIRC as well. He gets a live yogurt for breakfast and a strawberry one as part of his mid-morning snack.

Arla protein yogurt are about 10g protein per 100g compared with say 6g in a bog standard yoghurt. Seems a lot of faff to spend loads of money extra for 4g of protein.

A third of an ounce of chicken will also give you about 4g of protein.

I'm always amused by gymheads in Aldi, buying stacks of these protein yoghurts etc. Any fule kno that this stuff has additional sugars and fats, and the best way is always lean, natural protein.

I make my own by mixing protein powder, yoghurt and cocoa. Doesn't have the stand-up consistency sadly but it's a fraction of the price.
