few days ago my bank was frozen by HSBC telling me my account is under review . I'm totally stuck without funds to do anything.ive tried calling but the only response is that until the review is complete I can have no access to my money recieved from an inheritance.is there anything I can do ?
I'm totally distraught over this ...how long does this take ?
Rent needs to be paid ..bills ...and unfortunately all my cash was with them .I don't have money to eat even

When a bank account gets frozen it’s usually for something they don’t like for example using personal account for business or getting some money from somewhere they don’t like

It can take a while to Un freeze an account, they need to make sure everything is in order nothing you can do to speed the process up

just prove to them you did nothing wrong

It will take as long as it takes. Could be days, could be weeks.

Open an account with another bank and arrange for your wages etc to be paid into it.

It is not wise to have all your money with one bank for this very reason.

I hope it gets sorted soon OP - As others have said, there is not much that can be done to speed it up. Open a second account with a different non-linked provider to get money paid into in the meantime. Good luck

They need to let you have the money from employment or benefits whilst they are investigating. You need to go into Branch for this, with photo ID and your debit card.

It is possible that the deposit of an inheritance has spooked them. You should offer them evidence of the source of the money, e.g. a copy of the will, a certified letter from the Executor. Take this with you when you pop into Branch to get cash.

For the future, get yourself at least one alternative source of money - a credit card, for example, or a second current account / savings account - with a different bank (not FD, M&S or HSBC)

Very sorry to read that ... indeed in can take weeks according to knowledgeable people on this board.

Presumably there was a large deposit of your inheritance recently. All banks and financial services companies are being expected to take steps to combat potential money laundering and to take a precautionary approach ... and I know this doesn't help you.

Do you have a credit card ?
Employer who can give you an advance?

I would have thought that the bank could you give you limited access in the circumstances. Have you spoken to somebody in your local branch, putting across your circumstances but understanding their position might help.

You can ask to make a complaint. Whilst this won't result in your account being unfrozen, it could help you to get access to some funds in the interim. It might also speed up the review process.

It's possible the inheritance has caused concern, depending on the value and how the funds were deposited. Having some proof you are entitled to the funds will be helpful as they will most likely ask for this.
