Imagine this... You've been up all night because you flew in from San Francisco. Full flight and hardly had anytime to sit down. You've been up since 10am Tuesday morning and it's now 11am. You drive home and on the way the estate agent calls to pick up the keys to your new home! Suddenly, you don't feel tired anymore, you skip into the estate agents and collect your keys. The first thing you do is go to the flat and put the heating on.
Then you go back to your other place to get the last of your things together and wait for the van to come and remove your bits.
Finally at 8pm (still no sleep from Tuesday) you're alone in your place and feel like something is wrong, wrong like it's cold as hell!
You look at the boiler... You know what I'm too tired to continue this fairytale.I've been up now for God knows how many hours!
I moved into my flat today and the boiler isn't working. The hot water heats up but when it came to the heating the code E 02 keeps coming up. So my first thought was to go their website but there was no manual, however thanks to the power of google and my sheer hardheadedness I found one. Now every other code says something about contacting an authorised service centre, but this one doesn't, does that mean I should be able to fix this? Here is what it says.
My gauge is at 0.8, and I've tried to press the reset button and nothing. Should I try opening the water inlet valve? What does it look like? The hot water is working.
Thank you for reading this because I know I'm waffling. I'm be thoroughly embarrassed in the morning... Most people act up when they're drunk not me! Only when I'm tired! :rotfl:

One of the possible causes of this shutdown situation could be lack of water in the boiler or water circulation failure in the primary heating circuit. Check the system pressure on the system pressure gauge and if less than 0.5 bar, try bringing the system pressure up to a mean bar of 1.0 by opening the water inlet valve. Then reset by the boiler off and then back on by pressing the button D.

It is most likely the pump is switched off or the programmer/timer is set for just hot water as I am assuming it is a combi. If 0.5 is the lower pressure limit than 0.8 should be ok, so should not top up at mo. Try switching the mains (electricity) to the boiler off for 30 secs, then back on to do a reset on the control system, it works with most thing that have a microprocessor. Have Ariston not got a telephone helpline? Good luck.ac's lovechild0 -
maninthestreet, i was gonna post the same question...but it's in the thread title
It's a combi (this one : http://www.mtsgroup.com/uk/ariston/prodotti/caldaie/_cfm/caldaie_scheda01.cfm?cod_nav1=823&cod_nav2=32&cod_serie=1881&cod_comm=330001)
Guapa, Was the boiler off when you moved in? It should have been left on for anti-frost features to work and for the boiler to run the pump.
Are there any valves that might have been turned off by a previous resident (could you check with them somehow? perhaps through the estate agent)?
Check that the main water stop-c%ck coming into the flat is open fully.
If all the valves have been opened up, i think i'd go round and try bleeding the radiators (with heating turned off) to eliminate air from the system. Being a combi you'll have to top up via the filling loop after. Then retry.
Also try turning off the electricity power to the boiler and leave for a minute before turning back on to reset it.

I can't remember if it was turned off... I don't think it was actually. I still have the previous owners number so I'll call her today. I don't know where the stop c ock is, I have so much to learn, I think this area is going to become my new favourite place on these forums!:rotfl: These heaters look so different to the ones I'm used to I can't find where the key goes to bleed them.
Right I'll check the water things first, then do a reset. I've got the tech number for Ariston for worst case scenario.
Thank you all so much for responding.Getting there... A deal at a time. :T0 -
Hi
Once you have bled the rads (which is not the cure all that almost everyone thinks it is)
you will need to top up the system pressure .Fill it to 1 bar.
If you don't have the manual to hand then find it on the Ariston website.
You have hot water so the mains stop !!!! must be open,
For heating ... have you.
1) Turned up the room stat (if you have one.)
2) Is the programmer on
3) Is the stat for c/h on the boiler turned up( to about midway of it's range.)
4) Are there any lights on the boiler that would indicate it's trying to do c/h.
It's possible the divertor is stuck if it's been left off for any length of time

Thanks, sorry I haven't answered sooner, my broadband has just been connected! I spoke to the helpline and they made me turn up the pressure to 1 and nothing happened so they said I needed an engineer. Then I spoke to the ex owner and apparently if the boiler (the actual object) is cold it doesn't fire up so I put on the oven, heated up the room and then switched it on and it worked!??!!
I've never heard of that before and I know I'll need to get it sorted out, but at the moment am enjoying my lovely heating!Getting there... A deal at a time. :T0 -
Hi
A poor electrical joint or component on the PCB might be the problem .Interesting.
Please post the solution, if you can.
