No Identification to claim
I am trying to claim universal credit and marriage tax allowance however do not have the documents required to verify my identity online. I believe that we are waiting for a phone call from HMRC to verify my identity either over the phone or to be invited to a face to face meeting.
Does anyone have experience of being in this situation? I am wondering whether to apply for my passport to be renewed (but not sure how long that could take given the ongoing strikes), but if there is a quicker or simpler way to verify my identity then I would appreciate any advice, thank you.

To claim Universal Credit you'll ideally need to provide ID, for example an in-date passport, driving licenceor European Economic Area national identity card and evidence of your address. The 'Universal Credit − evidence check list' attached to this page has further information on acceptable ID.
If you do not have any photo ID you'll have to go into the jobcentre to have an ID appointment. They'll ask you security questions and use other evidence, such as a combination of non-photo ID to verify who you are. Once you've made the first part of your claim for Universal Credit, someone from your local job centre will contact you. At this point you'll need to tell them you haven't got any photo ID so they can arrange an ID appointment with you.
Taken from Derby Council webpage - so it may differ from council to council.
If you go through the non photo ID process, have you tried locating your National Insurance number, this can be sent in writing to your address.

I couldn't verify my ID online for UC - I've no passport and no driving licence. So it was an appointment at the Jobcenter, showing a Council Tax letter, a utility bill, a bank statement, etc.
It took all of 5 minutes. The only photo ID I have is a disability bus pass (ENCTS) - at the UC ID interview she said that wasn't accepted; but then scanned it and recorded the details anyway.3 -
There are procedures for people with no ID and no proof of address and no bank account to claim Universal Credit via a face to face chat. As there are vulnerable people in that situation for example homeless people, people fleeing abuse or chucked out of home with just the clothes on their back, etcetera.3
