How to play silence over bluetooth on iPhone?

This has been bugging me for years. I use Google Maps on my iPhone connected by bluetooth to my VW Polo's audio system. It works fine if music is also playing through an app on the phone. If there is no music the bluetooth cuts out and I no longer get spoken directions. I sometimes like to drive in silence but with the directions. Is there some way of playing a "silent" track on repeat which would presumably solve my problem?

Never got it to work properly through the car bluetooth, phone calls work fine, music is fine but turn-by-turn comes from the phone speaker.0
