How do I find estimated valuations for property in Sept 2008?

Hi all,
fingers crossed that someone can help .. How can you work out a historic house valuation estimate? I have the purchase price, date and sold price and date, but need the potential value in Aug2008.  I have tried google searches but haven't been successful.  Any help would be appreciated.

Ideally by looking at sales of comparable properties around that time.

If you want a very rough idea, using any of the property value indices - but at best those probably only give you an average for a large region.

If you need a reliable figure, surveyors can do retrospective valuations.

If there are comparable houses nearby, try Rightmove. From menu at the top - House Prices -> Sold house prices

Try this UK House Price Index (data.gov.uk) and use the search the index function.
You can then filter by local authority (rather than the whole of the UK) for a given time range that seems to go back to 2008.  Then filter by type of house etc.  If you know the sold price and date, then you can extrapolate backwards to 2008 using the percentage change yearly or monthly using the data tables tab.
