“Would you like an email receipt?”
No thank you. I’d like a proper paper one which I can check now, and which won’t be used for sending me marketing spam that I really don’t want.
Getting more common in some non-food stores and I do find it incredibly annoying. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.1 -
I agree there's definitely profiteering going on in many ways.
Thanks to the thread, I checked carefully when I bought Yorkshire tea this week. I knew the Aldi price was high (thanks to trolley site) so was pleased to see large box at £4.25 in £ shop. Charged £4.50 at the till so complained and got a refund.
The trouble is that it's not as easy to remember all the prices on a large shop. ☹️0 -

I'm only ever in for half a dozen things and usually queued being someone with a trolleyload.
I'd quite like to process the transaction at my own pace, checking the prices as I go, not duplicating the items and ending up with a printed receipt.
I do my (almost) full weekly shop there and to begin with the self service bag area was too small, just designed for a small shop. They soon cottoned on and redesigned some machines with a big bagging area, big enough for 3 large bags. 👍
Sadly, our local Lidl opens so few staffed tills that the self service has queues stretching to the back of the shop. Fortunately I rarely go there, just to stock up on a few favourites.0 -
We work as a team at the checkout (realising we’re fortunate to be able to do that). One of us grabs the stuff as quickly as possible & puts it straight back into the trolley while the other does the app/ loyalty card/ debit card (joint a/c for household).Packing at leisure once through the checkout is far less stressful: one of us starts the packing into the rucksacks (we use the car for a big shop but infrequently) while the other checks the receipt.Grateful to all previous contributors to this thread: have been given food for thought and the one of us with the brilliant nose for prices may well in future be checking each price as it updates on the little display next to the cashier!
would've . . . could've . . . should've . . .

Just my perspective to show why they ask, I'll happily say yes every time.3 -
Talking of things being double scanned - I never put 2 of the same thing on the belt together so that can't happen.
Years ago, in my Tesco days, we were instructed to always scan a different item each time if possible. I don't know how it started but we suddenly had a flurry of people bringing their receipts back in complaining they'd been charged 2 or 3 times for one of something. So they'd get refunded for the big packs of nappies/multipacks of loo rool/dozens of batteries that were sat in their cars....I'm unsure about my spine, I think it's holding me back.1 -

Personally I LOVE electronic receipts, much easier to keep track of as I can save the email and they won't fade in sunlight making them useless six months later when returning faulty electrical appliances. I will always take the digital receipt where possible so I don't mis-place it.1 -
Thankfully my local Lidl hasn't had the incorrect prices on items, I don't know if they ever had incorrect prices on items because I only shop once per week and it could happen during the days I don't shop, Monday to Saturday, but normally the price on the ticket is the price I pay at the checkout.
If they've ever had the incorrect prices displayed then it would be on the days I don't shop and corrected within the six days that I'm not shopping.Someone please tell me what money is0 -
comeandgo said:Just back from New Zealand and the supermarkets we went to had given up on the paper shelf prices, it’s little computerised price bars so nobody has to physically change paper, it’s all done in the office or by some shop staff who can change the prices. Wonder how long it will take UK to catch up.Someone please tell me what money is2

I've only seen them in Amazon Fresh stores recently, but I am surprised more supermarkets haven't started using them.0
