Mac to Window PC Question

How can I transfer files from a Mac to a new external hard drive
Which can then be plugged into a Windows laptop which can open the above Mac files

Comments

  • Format the hard drive with the exFAT format and that can be used by both PC and Mac.

Can't tell you how to open the files unless you tell us what type they are?

Ideally I'd like to transfer all files on Mac onto the external hard drive and leave them there
But be able to open them at any time on my Windows laptop

The files are photos videos and text files

The external hard drive is new
Do I format it as exFat on the Mac or on the lap top

How do I transfer files from Mac to the external hard drive

If the files are only photos, videos and text then that's a long way from all your files.

Doesn't matter which device you format it on

To move from Mac to drive just drag and drop

    Hi
The external harddrive was already set up with ExFat
I did a trial run and transferred a photo from Mac  on to ext hd
I can see this and open it using my win laptop

What's easiest way to transfer everything on the Mac onto the ext hd so I can then see and open all files from my win laptop

Can I just do a back up from Mac to exFat ext hd

  • You could drag and drop if there aren't too many.

A Mac back up does more than just copy the files.

Are the text files compatible with the Windows PC, ie not in Mac Pages format?
Things that are differerent: draw & drawer, brought & bought, loose & lose, dose & does, payed & paid

  • Sorted it
Decided I only needed the files in my documents folder
