Sudden usage hike

Hi looking for advice. My gas usuage has doubled this month even though the heating has been on less. When I turn the heating on the meter makes a noise and looks like it is spinning fast, although I’ve never looked to see how fast it normally spins.
Our average monthly unit usage was 55/60 units oct-Jan we’ve just been billed 120 units from 1st-20th March
Is this a boiler issue or faulty meter?

Take a reading put the boiler on and then take a new reading after 10min, work out the kwh vs the boilers rating.

    Have you have cold weather?

@picklepockle    By units are you meaning the reading from the meter itself  (the one in an outdoor meter box - not the In House Display toy in the kitchen) - in which case unit is m3 (or ft3)  ? The billing system converts this to kWh.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

... or a billing catch up?

Was your previous bill based on actual meter readings or was it perhaps an estimate?
