Single trip travel insurance - valid dates?

Options
I have taken out single trip insurance for a couple specifying departure and return dates in October 2023, British Airways have seen fit to cancel flights and rebook flights two days earlier both outward and return. I presume if I don't inform insurance company the policy would be invalid if BA again cancelled the earlier flights nearer the time of departure? Another scenario, what if we are delayed beyond our booked return date if flights are again cancelled? Are we still covered?

I can't think of any reason not to discuss this with the insurance company, unless the situation is spelt out in sufficient detail within the policy terms?
