I've been following the advice on here so I appreciate that there are different strategies for different firms.

In addition, it was quite a general question which didn't require all the background info and I got the answer I needed without taking up too much of people's time. I would have thought that was a win-win.

You are right that the regulars tell people not to post personal data that can identify them.

Examples of this are posters who have used real names as usernames, showed VRMs, PCN numbers, court claim numbers and government gateway passwords, dropbox file folders that include photos of their kids, and much more, and, having identified themselves then go on to reveal the driver's identity.

All you have been asked to provide is the name of the PPC and the location. This will tell us to which ATA the PPC belongs, whether someone has links to photos and landowner contracts that will help you, whether the PPC is likely to withdrew near the hearing date (UKPC/DCBL combination being a common example of this) or whether the PPC will bludgeon on no matter what (VCS/Excel being examples of that bullish attitude).

If you don't want to tell us the information that well trusted and respected regulars who know what they are doing have asked you for, then that is fine, but as KeithP has said, the number of posters willing to help you if you don't answer these very basic questions will drop off as we decide to help others more willing to let us help them.
