Hi all,

Have sprung a leak near my rear passenger door somehow but can't find any signs of where it's coming in.

Every google search leads me in under the pollen filter to a tapered drain that was blocked with debris  I cleared that out six weeks ago and despite a relatively dry period weather wise the rear carpet is still saturated.

Anyone any ideas please?

The small quarter light window is known to leak on these.
Owners usually notice the boot/spare wheel well is wet first, but it can make it's way to the rear passenger footwell.

Look in the boot under the spare wheel, to see if it’s flooded.
If so take out wheel and remove rubber plug so it can drain.
    That should stop everything flooding.
As above it’s likely to be the light or rubber seal on the boot.
Is the door full of water, the drain blocks, it’s under the door 3 little slots from memory.
The pollen filter drain should only cause water at the front unless it’s very bad.
I would try looking at theses point, then dry around the points above.
Place wadded up kitchen roll in each area and get a car wash. Then see where gets wet.
That will narrow it down a bit.

Cant see any signs of water coming in round the small window or anywhere else in fact, although there was a small amount of water under the spare wheel. just trying to wrench the back seat out to get a look under the carpet. The issue seems centred on the rear passenger door but would expect to see water marks where it is running in...

My Astra has a tube from the heater that passes under the passenger seat to supply air from the car heater ,can the heater be leaking and water running down tube? mind if it was your water level in the engine would be dropping.

check the drain holes in the bottom of the rear  passenger door and also after it has rained check the bottom of the door card for any water ingress

if you find any water in this area take the door card off and check the condition of the waterproof membrane

Check the door seal - the one that goes all around the door opening.  Lift the bottom of it up from the body work.  If there’s been a persistent leak you might see signs of rust.

Thanks all for the tips but it isn't losing any water from the header tank and I put a flat head screwdriver into for long slots in bottom of door that I presume are the drains and nothing seems blocked there either. ran my finger tips under the door seal and that is bone dry too with no signs of rust. Will put the hose on it at the weekend and see if I can spot anything then but no real rain in 24 hours and floor at the rear door is still sopping wet...

I had something similar many years ago with a Ford Orion.  The rear footwell carpets would be soaked after heavy rain, but there were no obvious signs of leakage.  We sorted it out by stripping rear of the car - seats, boot liner and so on - and then directing a high pressure hose at various places.  The leak was tracked down to the rear window following that method and a windscreen man sealed it up for me.  Car was fine afterwards, but goes to show that the eventual resting place of water can be somewhat remote from its point of ingress.

In the Orion's case, water was running down inside a trim panel, making its way under the back seat and finally coming to rest beneath the footwell carpet.

Thanks for your help. I think it will be rear window on this too. Was definitely a bit of water round the spare tyre but most of it must be trickling round in under the rear seat...
  • Oh this is so annoying...
I have an Opel Vectra C facelift, i dismantled everything, removed the seat, the glove box, removed the carpet and waited two weeks for it to dry.

I cleaned the right side of the air filter where everyone says the problem is, I put silicone on the air filter housing where I noticed water seeping inside, I stayed for 10 minutes with the water hose on the car and it didn't course so I mounted absolutely everything and I was very proud of my operation.

I went to the car wash and when I checked...it was wet on the right side on the floor...not as bad as before but it was wet...

I'm thinking of removing the entire bottom board, but I can't figure out where else the water could enter...
