iD charging line rental when cancelling within 14 days?

I bought an iD Mobile contract that came with a phone.
I ended up returning the phone and cancelling the contract within a week.
However, they still charged me the line rental up until that point. From a Google search it looks like they've done this to others too.
I ended up complaining saying I should be covered by the 14 day cooling off period and they agreed to refund me (but never did). I complained again and actually got refunded this time.
Just curious whether they are in the right or not here? Does the 14 day cooling off period not apply to phone contracts? I would assume (and always thought) that it's exactly the kind of thing a cooling off period was made for.

Seems correct to me. Cancelling the contract doesn't mean you get the service you've already used up to that point for free.5

I agree with user1977. Cooling off period does not mean you don't have to pay for any service you have used during the cooling off period.

But you still have to pay for the service used.
So if the line was active, you will have to pay for the days used.Life in the slow lane0
