Off sick after Redundancy announcement

Options
Hi, i am unfortunately juggling a divorce, financial arrangements, childcare arrangements and house sale, i was put on happy pills and took only two weeks off work as i wanted to keep myself busy, well now I'm also being made redundant, i have a long consultation process but wondering if i should put forward a case for gardening leave or just go off sick (with plenty of justification) I don't want to ruin any relationship with my employer or put my redundancy payment at risk but i feel i need time to get my head clear and look for another job.

If you are well enough to go to work go to work if younger not be off sick. What would your case for gardening leave be ? Usually it’s the employer that chooses this to protect themselves.

Your employer has a duty of care for your wellbeing and should be offering additional support during this period. I would be honest with them, if you have a good relationship woth your manager speak to them or if you do not feel comfortable doing that a member of Human Rwaources should be able to support you.

You have the remember the redundancy process is governed by extensive laws so you must be treated fairly, do not be afraid to explain the situation to your employer. Sickness sounds like the most appropriate option but may elongate the redundancy process. Something to consider.

I hope you get it sorted and wish you luck

    Regards
