Car Insurance

My car insurance has gone up £200, my company said there was a claim against me last year. What in fact happened was that someone tried to say I had bumped their car but I did no such thing and they withdrew the claim. Don’t see why my insurance has gone up? For a non existent crash and a non existent claim????

Most people's insurance has gone up this year, insurers made underwriting losses last year and are predicted to make underwriting losses this year too despite the premium increases so we can guess what happening next year.

Believe that any claim would be reflected in the wording on the renewal notice - is any mention made to a drop in your NCB? Compare the NCB last year with the % in arriving at this years renewal. Should be different last year v this unless of course your insurers did receive and settle a claim from that other party?

Last year £398 this year £690 -  not started to haggle yet but plenty of quotes iin between plus a couple bear £900
Full no claims - NCD 20 plus years - not offences.

Almost cheaper not bothering when you look at the fines habded out

Insurers almost universally only state how many years NCD you have and not what discount that gives. In the old days many more insurers used to publish a table of the percentage but that stopped a long while back and more now have more complex calculations.

The majority of drivers have 4+ years NCD which means, using the old system, an average of over 70% discount, which kind of makes you question what the real premium is if the majority are getting that level of discount.

That ultimately was the trick of eSure and subsequently Privilege when both said they'd only insurer those with a good record and 4+ years NCD. People felt they were in an exclusive set and premiums not being pushed up by bad drivers etc and yet in reality over 85% of the driving population were eligible by the criteria
