Presumably, if you open this ISA with a view to fund it with a transfer from a Cash ISA from another bank but do not start the transfer within 14 days, then the Santander ISA will be cancelled? I assume if this happens, you could open the same Santander 18 month ISA unless it had been withdrawn and start the process again. I'm asking this question because I may want to hang on for a while to see if there are rate increases in the next couple of weeks before I complete any transfer.
Your transfer request must be received by April 30, or within 14 days of account opening, so you have at least a couple of weeks from now to submit it.

As long as you make no new deposits after April 5, and do not request a transfer-in, you are not committed to do anything with the Santander ISA. In this case, should anything better come along in the next couple of weeks (which I seriously doubt), you can still opt for the better one. But if you don't apply for the Santander one now, it might no longer be available by the time you want it. Bird in hand etc etc etc

Once you have applied you have 14 days to submit a transfer request and the transfer has 30 days to complete
The 30th April date is the final date for applications for Santander cash ISA transfers

  • Not sure if it has been mentioned already, but the way I read the T&C is that to qualify for the £50 voucher you have to commit to a full ISA transfer, not a partial.

So cannot just transfer £10k in to qualify for the voucher.

    Do others agree?

Yes, the offer T&Cs specifically state that you must transfer the whole balance of the ISA (of £10k or more) in order to qualify for the voucher.

Apologies if this has already been mentioned and I have missed it - but one thing to note with these ISA's is that they ONLY suit people who have the full years allowance to deposit immediately - not those who may wish to deposit an amount now, and then finish topping up later, due to the funding deadline.

Last year on a similar offer I made a partial transfer in and still got the voucher.

Was that when they made the same offer in September/October last year ? These are the relevant bits from the eVoucher T&Cs for that particular offer and they're the same again this time, so you were definitely lucky :)

    "2. Eligibility.
To qualify for the ISA Transfer Offer and the Voucher Payment the following eligibility criteria apply:
2.1 You need to have provided us with an instruction to transfer in the full balance you hold in an existing cash or stocks and shares ISA held with an ISA manager that is not us or Santander ISA Managers Limited..."

    and further on...

"If you transfer part of the balance you hold in an Old Account which is £10,000 or more into a Qualifying Account, this will not be eligible for a Voucher Payment. Only single full ISA Transfers In with a balance of £10,000 or more into a Qualifying Account will receive a Voucher Payment."
