My son is looking to buy a house that has no central heating. Its a 2 Bed terrace house, he has been quoted about 15K to supply and install the same and re-plumb the kitchen and bathroom. Does this sound about right?

It depends exactly what they are quoting for (& also in what area he is, labour rates vary).
If it is literally to install a combi boiler, rads etc. it seems rather high.
If it is a system boiler plus unvented cylinder it would be more than for a combi.
Is there mains gas to the property already?
Is it just replumb or replace bathroom/kitchen?0 -
Thanks for reply, house in Yorkshire. New combi boiler, rads and pipework, house has gas fire atm. Just replumb bathroom/kitchen

Well, as I said, it depends exactly what they are quoting for.
However, based on what you have said it seems pretty high imo.0 -
I bought my 3 bed terrace last year and had gas combi boiler fitted, 7 rads, tied into existing hot water pipes for bath and kitchen but was a new gas supply so also ran pipe from meter to boiler and cooker and that cost me 5k. That is on the south coast.
I would get a couple more quotes as that sounds very expensive to me.0 -

£15k as a ball park figure for a phone, email or social media reach out, seems about right.
Its easy to do a detailed quote without visiting the property if the selling estate agent has included plenty of photos, better still if they include room dimensions or even better a 3D matterport walk through.
Just completed a detailed quote for a 3 bedroom semi, information gained from estate agents sales details (and other information freely available on the internet).
Apart from installing the new central heating system, there will be some existing equipment tanks, cylinders etc that will need removing. Rubbish removal is also time & money consuming.
Wish your son good luck with the purchase0 -
Thanks for the replies, he didn't go ahead in the end. The house was being sold by something that was called Modern Auction, which seems to be code for rip-off.
