6% Additional fee

Options
I have been trading on ebay for 20 years and now I am totally disgusted with their fees and policies

My seller performance has dropped and ebay are adding an additionla 6% fee on top of regular fees

They add this 6% fee on every sale I make not just the sales that have had an issue with

My question is:  Is it legal?

What does it say in the Terms & Conditions that you agreed to?

If you're not happy with eBay's fees, you could always stop using the platform.

Sorry to hear OP, yes I would presume it's legal until challenged through a high court.

Which area is causing you to fall below standard?

Have you viewed your seller dashboard?

It is difficult if not impossible to drop below standard on just one sale, it will be a combination of various things on your dashboard. including Late postage, poor feedback or stars (and that needs to be 'very' poor before it impacts) and refusal to refund where buyer wins a case. On here we do recommend watching your dashboard so that you can make changes before it hits the danger zone.

However, hindsight is a wonderful thing and not helpful to you. To answer your specific question, yes ebay have a penalty system built in to their fees which selelrs agree to when they sell. All you can do is negate the issues by selling a lot of things quickly without any issues at all so that the percentage goes down on the problems.

What issues have you had to drop below standard? Is there anything that can still be acted on to deal with?

It is explained here about the fee Fees for business sellers | eBay
and here about what happens if you are below standard Seller standards policy | eBay

As others have said, its legal as its advertised in advance what fees may apply.
  • Trading for 20 years I ought to know the ebay terms

However when you have customers giving negative feedback because they thought item purchased was measured in CM rather than what my advert clearly states MM and ebay allow the negative feedback to stand it is beyond belief

Similar issues have resulted in my seller rating droping below required level  Currently 99.8% is that not good enough?

99.8% is perfectly good enough, I bought from a seller last night that had 99.2% and have always been perfectly happy with their service.

Feedback percentage though is a very small part of your dashboard and has little impact on your rating , what really matters are the defects and it’s those you need to address.

As for the particular feedback you mention, and if the size was mentioned clearly in the item specifics (not just the description) a seller with a good eBay history should be able to get it removed. Admittedly it was about a year ago now I got one removed in similar circumstances, item specifics clearly showed a brand, and it was also in description, negative was left stating it was only an XX brand and they had expected it to be YY, eBay looked at my item specifics and removed the neg without much fuss.
