• In the posts below, Zango is listed as a threat and we would like to correct this listing.

Zango is a safe and secure program which will not harm users’ computer.

We are certainly aware of the ever-growing number of harmful applications that have surfaced on the Web.
Please be assured that Zango, unlike such applications, will always make the user’s privacy our top priority. Zango is a safe and secure program which installs itself only upon user's download and does nothing without the user's consent.

Following are some clarifications on the function of Zango's software:

1. Zango does not build personal profiles.
2. Zango does not gather any data you enter in online forms.
3. Zango does not access any sensitive information entered while surfing, such as account details, passwords, credit card information, products you purchase online, etc.
4. Zango’s installation does not install any third party applications. In addition, Zango can be installed only through a standard download process initiated by the user from Zango's websites and is easy to uninstall.

Unfortunately, it appears that some scanning applications have mistakenly included Zango on their lists. We are aware of this situation and our legal team is contacting these companies in order to be removed from their lists.

Zango is a user friendly program, and it is of paramount importance to us that our program will function properly and will be easily removed and installed.

To remove Zango from your computer, please do the following:

1. Close all open applications/programs/windows
2. Go to: 'Start' - 'Settings' - 'Control Panel' - 'Add\Remove Programs'
3. Click on 'Zango Browser and Wowpapers Tools'
4. Click 'Change/Remove' button
5. Check the components you wish to remove, click 'Next' and follow the on-screen instructions.
6. Restart your computer

Alternatively, you can use our uninstaller:
1. Click on the following link - http://installs.zango.com/downloads/Uninstaller/Uninstaller.exe
2. Click 'Run' and follow on-screen instructions
3. Restart your computer.

Zango support team can be easily contacted through our help site: http://catalog.zango.com/destination/corporate/supportform.aspx
or directly at: zangosustomersupport@zango.com

• Oh my goodness! I am so glad that there is someone out there with this problem!
I have had it on my laptop for months now, my hubby cleared it off, and now it's back.

It runs in the background, slows it down and really P****s me off! I think it should be banned!

and NO it isn't easy to uninstall, it leaves traces all over your PC!

http://www.siteadvisor.com/about/

SiteAdvisor was founded in April 2005 by a group of MIT engineers who wanted to make the Web safer for their family and friends. Having spent one too many holiday breaks trying to clean a mess of spam, adware, and spyware from our families' computers, we decided to take action.
We realized there was a gaping hole in existing Web security products. While traditional security companies had gotten relatively good at addressing technical threats like viruses, they were failing to prevent a new breed of "social engineering" tricks like spyware infections, identity theft scams, and sites which send excessive e-mail.
To address this challenge, we built a system of automated testers which continually patrol the Web to browse sites, download files, and enter information on sign-up forms. We document all these results and supplement them with feedback from our users, comments from Web site owners, and analysis from our own employees.
Our easy to use software for Internet Explorer and Firefox summarizes our safety results into intuitive red, yellow and green ratings to help Web users stay safe as they search, browse and transact online. Our goal is to pioneer a new approach to Web safety and make the Internet safer for everyone.
On April 5, 2006 we announced that we were acquired by McAfee, Inc. Teaming with McAfee will give us greatly expanded worldwide reach, access to McAfee's leading security technology, and greater resources to accelerate feature development for our many users

I had this on my PC a few weeks ago and it was taking over everything , but running both spybot and adaware cleared it( they both seemed to pick up different bits of it ) - I don't know if there are still traces on the PC but everything seems fine & running up to speed now.
• Zango, formerly 180solutions and Hotbar, manufactures known adware and spyware typically required to access partner's games, DRM-protected videos and software. Zango software is listed as "Adware" by Symantec.[1] McAfee states, "this program may have legitimate uses", but describes it as a "potentially unwanted program", and an "adware downloader".[2]

StopBadware.org lists a number of undesirable behaviors associated with Zango Easy Messenger, including "behaves as spyware", "automatically runs on startup", "displays pop-up advertisements", "installs adware", and "bundled software cannot be closed".
The same site states, "We find that Zango Easy Messenger is not badware, although it does engage in behaviors that users should be aware of."[6]
Websense issued a Zango-related security advisory in November 2006. The report stated that "Websense® Security Labs has discovered a number of user pages on the MySpace domain which have videos that look like they are from YouTube. The videos have an installer embedded within them for the Zango Cash Toolbar. When users click on the video, they are directed to a copy of the video, which is hosted on a site called Yootube.info."[7]
A more detailed analysis of this attack appears in "Bad Practices Continue at Zango, Notwithstanding Proposed FTC Settlement and Zango's Claims": "We continue to find ongoing installations of Zango's software that fall far short of the proposed (Federal Trade Commission) settlement's burdens, requirements, and standards." "We also remain concerned about third parties installing Zango's software without the required user consent. Zango's past features a remarkable series of bad-actor distributors, from exploit-based installers to botnets to faked consent. Even today, some distributors continue to install Zango without providing the required "clear and prominent" notice of "material" effects."

Go on Wiki... I cannot believe the crap this company installs!
