Strange smell from boiler...

I've been getting a smell from my boiler, not burning metal or plastic. Smells more like food cooking; the closest description would be toffee, as weird as it sounds.
Could there be dust inside the boiler burning off in operation?

Best to get it checked out by a gas safe engineer to be on the safe side2

Yes, might be best.
I have a Fireangel Monoxide alarm, its still on 0. Definitely can't smell gas. But best not to use it for now.
Should I just not use it, or complete shutdown?

Probably safest to shut it down completely; turn the boiler to Off on the main controls and then turn off the isolator that isolates the boiler electrically.
Is the boiler near a hob or stove? Do you have children? Might one the children put something into the boiler case? The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.1 -

No children. Its in a bedroom.
Looking through the instructions, it just says to enter a code to shut it down. https://www.johnsonandstarley.co.uk/sites/default/files/downloads/ZZ1431-5 QUANTEC HR-COMBI USERS INSTRUCTIONS FEB 2016.pdf
Its plugged into a normal mains switch also.

Thanks, good advice. I'll shut down the boiler from the panel, turn off both the gas and electricity to it.
