I'm going through some old statements and letters from DWP , about how long should I keep these before shredding do you think? Would you say 7 years like the bank info? What is the standard practise Many Thanks

Personally I would not shred until I'd made a digital copy and uploaded to storage. When it comes to the DWP, you can't be too cautious.1

The DWP can and do go back much further than 7 years. I would keep everything. The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.1

I've got all mine going back years plus I also scan letters when I receive them. If you want to shred them then, as suggested above, make a digital copy and upload to storage. You never know when you may be grateful you did so.1

Keep, don't shred.

I would say keep all. I would also keep all P60s from all employers too, forever. Things can and on very rare occasions do go wrong. It is a bit like insurance. If you have them you will never need them but if you don't!!!

Okdokey Thanks for all your comments looks as though I'm keeping them then. Just got so much stuff going back 20 plus years now.

Scan anything important and electronically store.... increasingly that's the format you'd communicate paperwork anyway...and increasingly that's the format you'll get it."Do not attribute to conspiracy what can adequately be explained by incompetence" - rogerblack1
