EDF Billing

  • I've just been looking at my EDF bill for about 3 hours and I finally worked it all out. Except for one thing... Because of the way it is calculated, they are charging 5 percent VAT on the 400 pounds from the government. That's 20 pounds per customer. Is this a massive scam, whereby they are trousering 20 pounds per customer, or are they overpaying VAT to the government? I can't see that they would have to pay VAT on the money given by the government, it wouldn't make sense... Can't help feeling I've discovered something big here... 20 pounds per customer is a lot of money. If anyone knows anything, I'd love to know.

you haven’t discovered anything or uncovered a scam because they’re not doing it. Can you explain more why you think they are?

I suggest you spend a few more hours and see what you think then.

Asked many times, investigated many times, every single time it was actually correct and the person "discovering something big" was wrong.

If such a high profile company were operating such a scam on such a scale HMRC would already be down on them like a ton of bricks!  You are misreading your bill.   Your usage of energy would include £400 and then some, all of which attracts the 5% VAT.  You got £400 EBSS towards your bills which is money in YOUR pocket - either refunded to your bank (to be used as you please) or deducted from your total gross bill, as if you HAD received the ££ direct into your pocket rather than it go via the energy company.

You can look at the £400, plus £150 C Tax refund plus £500/£600 WFA as extra income that you actually have received TAX FREE!

Stop wasting your time and effort looking for a scam where there is none, as has been shown many times on this forum.
  • Hi
I am edf customer with fix tariff till January 2024 for electricity.
EDF increase electricity unit charge from 31.88 to 38.88 without informing me and again in September making it to 40p per unit even when I m on fix tariff till Jan 2024.
I ring customer service and lady has no clue she keep saying about ofgem energy cap. There is two problems with her theory
    1) I m on fix tariff
    2) ofgem price cap gone down not up
Can please somebody explain me what is happening and what I need to do
    Thanks

Almost certainly as you are on a fix you are reverting to your fix rates, which were previously subsidised by the Energy Price Guarantee. When did you sign up to the fix and what are the fixed rates, rather than the rates you were charged whilst the EPG was in effect.
