EDF Billing

HI All,

I just wanted to see if anyone can explain the way EDF deal with this Energy Price guarantee to me.

EDF credits your EDF account with the £67 and then debits it and passes this to you via your bank account.

This is where my confusion comes in. I have received a bill from them and it states the following

Balance from last bill - 15.72 credit
You paid us 1135.00
Refunds - 268.00
Your charges for this period - £1166.92
New account balance 284.20 in debit.

I have paid them the above amounts and I should have £1150.72 in my EDF account, less the charges for the billing period (£1166.92) which gives me a balance of £16.20 debit.

EDF seem to want me to repay the £67.00 monthly credit (x4 = £268) that was credited to my bank account back to them.

Are they trying to pocket this money?

I have been through my DD payments and the amount of £1135.00 is correct.

Has anyone else got the same with their EDF bill?

Hopefully someone out there can explain how this EPG scheme is supposed to work to me.

Thanks in advanced.

Hello and welcome to the forum

We have had a lot of posts about this and the outcome is the bills are not very clear but are correct. Make sure you read the whole bill and check what has been sent to your bank account.

Get a piece of paper or a spreadsheet and put all the credits debits and your usage again remembering the £67 amounts sent to your bank and it should make sense.

    Thanks for the Reply Mstty

I have been through my direct debits and they add up to the amount of 1135.00 This has nothing to do with the £67 refund.

From what I can see is they want be to repay the £67.00 x 4months despite being gvmt money passed to me as part of the scheme.

The bill is really confusing and probably only understood by a forensic accountant.

No, they are not trying to pocket the money, but unfortunately (and it seems to be a trend across all suppliers) the bills are not laid out very clearly.

As Mstty mentions this has come up a few times with other people and once worked through all makes sense, it is however badly laid out. I think from memory the part where the amount was added to your account is actually deducted from the "Your charges for this period" section, if you look in there it will also show a credit of £268.00 so the in and out of your EDF account balance each other, but with your bank account better off.

I myself am with EDF by I will not be billed until the end of this month so once I do I will try and post an explainer with screenshots that makes things a little clearer.

Go to the bit where the electric unit use and charges show. Write it down, plus the standing charges shown. Do the same for gas and add them together. Add 5% for VAT. Note the total.

If you then look at "your charges for this period" I think you will find it's the total of the above sum, minus the number of £67s included in this bill. EDF have already taken it off but it's not actually shown anywhere.

Thanks Alnat1, You have hit the nail on the head. Thats exactly what they have done and the bill is clearer now.

EDF takes first prize for confusing billing and not laying things out clearly, line by line.

Maybe by the time mattmatmatuk gets bill they will of changed front page.
"your charges for this period"  is the problem.  It used to mean the total cost of your useage.

That explanation was superb Alnat1. Finally I understand the second page of the bill. However, I am still bamboozled by the first.

    Balance on last bill          284.14
    You paid us                     834.00
    Refunds                          817.44
    Your charges inc VAT     180.70
    Your new account bal     120.00

Refunds seems to include the £334 already accounted for in the "charges for this period" calculation and £483.44 for which I can find no explanation. Given that the account balance at the end of this period (balance at start plus what I have paid during) comes to £1118.14, should the charges for this period be deducted from that? Giving a refund of £937.44.

Am I barking up the wrong tree?

Curiously, the EDF website is suddenly "under maintenance"....
