Courier rates

Why is it that with the same courier and same tariff (for example FedEx international express), you see different costs depending on how you access the courier.  For example, many online retailers such as parcel compare and sometimes even high street stores like mail boxes etc offer cheaper rates than going direct to couriers like UPS or fedex.  How does this work?

Couriers offering discounts to people who send a lot of business their way and/or who bulk buy space in advance.

So when you pay one of these companies to send something through them and a chosen courier, are you basically paying them to send it on your behalf through your chosen courier?

Depends on the set up, but usually yes. For instance I sell quite a bit on Vinted and they have negotiated quite cheap rates for couriers, but Vinted have the contract with the couriers so if something is lost I have to wait for Vinted to reimburse me.

  • Delivery services provide special incentives to individuals who refer a significant amount of customers to them or who purchase large quantities of shipping space in advance.
  • There are different rates, i have been into the courier field from last 10 years. And every company charges according to their quality, car, luggage weight, and the distance. You can search near your area for a better source.
  • I always choose the company that gives the same day courier service because it tells about the quality of the courier company as well as the fastness. And then i decide to go with the same company for a long time.
  • I notice quite a lot when selling on E-bay and using Evri, the post-able rate and the 1kg non post-able is the same. Then every now and again the price jumps from £2.94 to £5.88, then I use Yodel. Next time it's back to normal
