Having double sink with no drainer grooves?

We're just designing our kitchen and I would like two sinks. I'm thinking of not having any drainer grooves and just getting a rack to go inside sink so that you can't really see the dishes drying. This is just to increase the worktop and I'm thinking drainer grooves will just take up space and not really stop the water from going everywhere anyway!
Am I making a mistake? Should I get them anyway on one side or leave them off completely?

by drainer grooves do you mean a draining board? I've never known one that lets the water go everywhere unless someone is really splashing it about.
Your idea is not one I would go for - for one thing having 2 sinks means you lose drawer space under the counter.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe and Old Style Money Saving boards. We have this set up, works for us. :-)
I wanted a butler sink but didn’t want grooves cut into the worktop so I have a double sink with a draining rack inside, just like you say.2 -
I fit a lot of kitchens and personally agree with you, 9 out of 10 kitchens have dishwashers, it all depends on what worktop you are having if you are having a solid surface then it’s fine to have grooves but I refuse to put grooves in any wooden worktop as water will always sit in it.Maybe, just once, someone will call me 'Sir' without adding, 'You're making a scene.'3

Sounds very sensible, I don't like drainer grooves either.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.1

No problem, I think. Just don't go with a Belfast Sink type main sink.
Unless you have a mixer tap with a detachable flexible nozzle on a hose, that you can use to direct a cleaning flow of water around the bowl.
Otherwise, this type of vertical sided and flat bottomed sink is a devil to keep clean of debris.
I've been there, done that.0 -
Thanks all, we're going for quartz so not a big issue having grooves but much prefer the drainer in sink option. We've got plenty of drawer space so will only be bins under the sinks.0

We're doing this too, kitchen being installed next month 😁 double sink and two slimline dishwashers so we've always got an empty one to put dirty stuff in (well that's the plan anyway!)2

I don't like draining boards but have one of these that overhangs the sink and can be put away .. "Joseph Joseph Extend Stainless Steel Dish Drainer"Signature on holiday for two weeks0

We have 2 1/2 sinks, and a draining board! We have a draining rack that can sit in the second full size sink, which I like, but still find I usually have enough things to wash to need the drainer too.
At our previous house we just had the 2 1/2 sinks, and missed having the drainer.0
