BlueLight card offer on Esso fuel

Hi

Looking for someone who has some feedback on taking advantage of this BlueLight Card (BLC) offer and I've put details in bold below. Checked my local area on PetrolPrices app and a discount of 4p on standard diesel would get close to our local supermarket price and if I shop around Esso stations I could get it cheaper than that. Not sure if the Esso fuel would give me more miles but I've an intermittent engine warning that my garage think might be due to supermarket fuel so the saving is of interest for that reason alone. The card is free but the money is debited from your current account in 2-3 days. Interested in anyone with their feedback on the use of this offer.

We have teamed up with WEX Europe Services in order to negotiate a discounted price on Esso Synergy fuel for members.

Apply for a FREE Esso Card™ (usually costing £43 per card), which allows you to receive a discount off pump prices for all Esso Synergy fuels.

How much will you save with your FREE Esso Card™?
- Save 6p on every litre of Esso Synergy Supreme Diesel
- Save 5p on every litre of Esso Synergy Supreme+99 Unleaded
- Save 4p on every litre of Esso Synergy Diesel
- Save 3p on every litre of Esso Synergy Unleaded

Are you eligible to apply for the card?
If so, and if you buy Esso fuel anyway, then it's a no-brainer.
But there's always the old argument about supermarket vs branded fuel.  The raw fuel itself is identical, the only difference is what detergents etc. are added.  Personally I use supermarket fuel almost exclusively and have never had a problem. If you are of the opinion that detergents do make a noticeable difference to performance and/or economy, there's an argument to say that it's cheaper to use supermarket fuel and add a dollop of Redex every so often.  Though I realise that's slightly off-topic to your original question!

Sorry but thats absolute rubbish, I run my current car on supermarket diesel and previous to that my petrol ones including some high performance ones with no issues what so ever. All fuel sold in the UK have to meet certain requirements and standards, if fuel from supermarkets was causing engine issues the press would be all over it and they're not.

If only supermarket fuel was cheaper round us.  For the last 6 months or so the supermarkets have been milking it.

Completely agree. They seem to be in a monopoly and only reduce prices if someone else in that area is pushing them down. Same supermarket a couple of miles apart can be up to 10p a litre different depending if any other garage is competing.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

ALL Petrol/Diesel is the same as a *Raw* product - The differrence is the additives which they apply when loading into the tanker for delivery.
Years ago I spenyt a very nice and expensive weekend (paid for by the company) looking at the whole thing of fuel addititives which the goup MD was looking at investing in.
  • Just used my DDS / WEX Esso card for the first time. The pump said I put £50 worth of standard diesel in. I went to the till and got a receipt for £50. When WEX deduct my actual payment from my bank, do they then give me a 4p per liter reduction?

    £1.56.

So do check that you are actually making a saving.

Then remember that they may bill £43 next year.

Been using my WEX card for nearly a year now with success. Have to use the PetrolPrices app to find the cheapest Esso stations which often are at the same price as the local Supermarkets but the 4p off a litre means I'm often saving £1-2 per tank probably used it a dozen times so have saved upwards £20. However if I do find a cheaper petrol station I do fill up there.
