Hi all
Has anyone managed to claim back overpayment of council tax if you have been in the wrong band but still owning the house but not living there. I bought the house in 2002 and paid council tax until my daughter moved in and started paying the council tax. I do not live at the property but still own it. Thanks for reading

Only the current CT payer of a dwelling can challenge the band. So if your daughter became the CT payer within the past 6 months she can appeal the band. If outside the 6 month time limit she can ask for band review, but whichever applies she must provide fairly conclusive evidence to support her claim. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales1

Yes I successfully claimed a lower band and got back-payments. I found a website showing what bands nieghbouring properties wer in and showed that most of the houses in the cheaper band were worth more than mine! It was about 3 years after we bought too.
I think what happened was the the property was divided up after the council tax bands were set.1 -
I am currently querying my tax band. I have lived here 22 years. Would the Council reimburse me for 22 years over charging or is there a limit of years they would acknowledge and repay. Also, should they pay me interest on any sums they have overcharged?0
