Who informed you?And what exactly did they say? Did you just look at the website or speak to someone? We know that Chip themselves are not covered by the FSCS, but they aren’t actually providing the accounts. Those are held by Clearbank, which is fully covered by the FSCS. Do you have new information to add to that?
Single sentence posts, without extra details, just aren’t helpful.2 -
How did they do that?oshoshitzu said:

Whoever informed you was wrong. But they might have been misled if you gave them the incorrect name of the bank holding the money.oshoshitzu said:

Dear FSCS
Re the statement below which I have copied from the website of Get Chip UK, Please could you confirm if this statement is correct?
"Covered by FSCS

The account has easy access to your savings, so you can withdraw deposits at any time, and withdrawals will be back with you in just a few seconds. Please note you are covered up to £85,000 per bank whether your deposits are made via Chip or not. Chip Instant Access is provided by UK authorised ClearBank Ltd, who also provision the Prize Savings Account. Reply (italics):Good afternoon,
Thank you for contacting FSCS on 20th March 2023.
Chip is a trading name of Chip Financial Limited. Chip is authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority under the Payment Service Regulations 2017, firm reference number no. 911255, for the provision of payment services. Note that Chip is not a bank. Electronic money (including pre-payment credit cards and pre-paid cards) is considered a method of payment, in the same way as cash/currency, and not a deposit held by a bank or building society. Therefore it's not protected by FSCS. You can find out more in our e-money article.

The FSCS response you got is general, and partially wrong. Worrying that they provide misleading information. You should complain to FSCS and request that the person who answered your question should receive some urgent training, or be removed from contact with consumers.CHIP offers both, FSCS and non-FSCS protected accounts.
You do not have to deal with Clearbank directly to get FSCS protection. In fact, as a consumer, you cannot deal with them directly . Only via concierge services like CHIP or Emma or Raisin etc.
The information on the CHIP website regarding FSCS is 100% correct.2
