Pixel 7 app thumbnails missing

ok, i just got a pixel 7 and i used the function to move everything from my current phone to the pixel 7. Apart from 4 main apps there are no other app thumbnails on the home screen. I am finding i am having to navigate to the apps section in settings to open apps. How do i fix this? I havent had chance to do a system software update yet. Is that what i need to do to sort it? Or do i need to do something in settings to make them appear?
a smaller side issue is i tried logging in to the my ee app and the app wont let me. It says phone not linked to account and to go to the website. I have kept the same sim card so i cant understand why its doing this.

on home screen
drag up finger  to expose all apps.

Then select & hold your finger on any app you wish  and drag up to homescreen..........same as most other android phones

Thanks, i will try that later, its currently charging. Although i think i did try dragging up earlier and nothing happened, i will try again. On my current phone i drag to the left and right to move to a screen with all the app icons.

Ok, i had been trying to swipe from the bottom which didnt work. It worked when i swiped up the middle of the screen. I did a system update which took an eternity and failed at first but worked after restarting the phone. It is now telling me there's another update but it keeps saying error. I guess i will have another go tomorrow. Its been making me wish i hadnt bothered. My dad was considering getting one and its put him off. At least the my ee app is working for me now.
