Hi
Reaching out to hive mind here, I have a neighbour who's kid loves to boot a ball against the fence panel and the noise of impact is unholy
I've read about vinyl being good for soundproofing - anyone any experience of this?
Also open to any other suggestions !!!..
Thanks in advance !

Realistically it's unlikely to have any effect major effect on the noise as he's hitting the wood on his side, you're gonna hear that.

My advice is to ask the neighbour to tell their offspring to kick the ball against their wall and not the fence.5

As above, I would ask the parents to stop their child from doing this. Kicking a ball at a wooden fence panel will absolutely cause damage. Is this your fence? Or the neighbour's?1

The best vinyl to help here would be play a bit of classical music in the garden while the problem is ongoing.
Anecdotally it is supposed to encourage youngsters to move on.4 -
Hi OP
Sorry to hear about that
I won't tell you to tell them not to do that as I can tell by your post that is not an option or it has been tried and failed.
The only solution the practical one is can see is a new fence, a double brick fence.or pulling the fence down and sticking up a 6 foot high hedge if you buy those ready-made, subject to whos fence etc it is
Sadly, there is no easy solutions. I sincerely hope I am wrong as I feel for you as I would not even want anyone to rest anything against our fence but balls constantly boucing off a woode fence I'm assuming dead it.0 -
PS
you may want to read the link re ball/s coming into your garden etc, but personally I would not bother as it could create more problems but only you ca decide

Nothing will soundproof a fence against the sound of a ball being kicked against it as the noise is travelling through the air. The only way to stop the noise is to stop the kids kicking the ball against it by talking to the parents, or to replace the fence with hedging as their ball won't bounce off, so they will stop kicking against it.
I suppose the last option would be to drape large amounts of barbed wire over the fence on their side....0 -
Whose fence is it, TXC? And what are the parents like?Other than replacing that fence with a hedge, I can't see any easily effective way of reducing the sound. Even a brick wall (not easy!) will produce an irritating sound when ball-kicked against. If it's your fence, you can require them to stop. Even if it isn't, this could well constitute a statutory noise nuisance if it's done for excessive periods. Your LA is who to contact to ask.Obviously not a route you'd wish to go down, but if the parents are unresponsive and inconsiderate, sometimes you just have to say "This IS unacceptable, and the neighbs ARE inconsiderate in allowing it and are doing nothing to help, so we ARE entitled to take action." If you do, then get ready with a calm "Well - what did you expect?!" when they say summat.0

Hi all
Thanks for the help! Bit sad that soundproofing doesnt appear to be possible
Just to address the common q's- Unfortunately yes I already tried the discussion route when I first moved in last summer - they were very unresponsive and the party line was "I have x amount of boys - so the ball will hit the fence, they dont listen to me"
- Re: whose fence it is...I have the crappy side so i assume its not mine??
I suppose an option would be to wait until it breaks, then shoulder 100% cost of the replamcement but with the addendum that no ball touches it?0 -

Whoever paid to put the fence up can choose which way round it goes - many people want the 'good' side facing into their garden.Your deeds and/or your neighbour's deeds may tell you who is responsible for that boundary but that won't necessarily be the ones who paid for the fence.1
