Thanks for all the replies. Some good tips there. Still need more though!

I'd go to Montmartre, visit Sacre Coeur, wander around the village and watch the artists and super views across the city.

Definitely agree with the poster about having your main meal at lunchtime. The plat du jour is usually really good value. Alternatively, plenty of places to buy sandwiches (Boulangerie or Subway) which you can eat in the park, weather permitting.
  • I haven't been to Paris for years, but we have done a couple of city breaks with the children when they were younger.

Bruges for example, one of their main memories was researching the best place for ice cream (it's Da Vinci's) before we went. We then planned in some time to go, allowed the children to find the route on a map, perhaps saw somewhere we wouldn't have otherwise seen, then had a delicious ice cream. Is there something similar you could find with your children?

Thanks for the response. Will remember to say Bonjour to everyone!
Whereas the British often state that France is amazing and only spoiled by the French so the French say the same about Paris, its only spoiled by the Parisians.  Personally find that they respond positively to a little effort to communicate in French.

Presumably Disneyland goes without saying... dont have kids so no idea what 6 year olds like but the Catacombes are rather atmospheric (45 minutes walking through underground tunnels lined with skulls/bones etc... theres almost 2,000 miles of tunnels and 6 million people down there)

Like most capitals it has its collection of natural history museums, aquariums, zoos etc but not sure that any are particularly special compared to others
I also thoroughly recommend the catacombs

Berthillon is always recommended for ice cream in Paris.  Cross over the little bridge at the back of Notre-Dame to the next island
