We buy about 748392743289 lawn edging shears per week during the summer or around £7483437 per year
Thats why you wont be able to buy any edging shears after this week in any gardening shop in the country
Despite watching Monty Don, its not possible to resharpen these in under 3 weeks, so cheaper to buy another half dozen sets.
Anyone else spend their annual salary each year on lawn edging shears and have you found a cheaper electric alternative?

This must be some smart lawn you have! Photo please
I gave up on sheers years ago as after the first few cuts they seemed to chew up the grass.
Sometimes blade sharpening people visit garden centre car parks round here, village repair pop up shops and I have been known to sharpen stuff myself.
For years I've used a strimmer. Does the job without backache. But granted it doesn't look quite as smart. Visiting friends don't care though and I get to do other more fun stuffI can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Jeez that made me laugh!
I tell you what'd be cheaper. Let the whole thing go to rack and ruin become a wild flower meadow, then buy flocks of alpacas and sheep.I oppose genocide. I support freedom of speech. I support freedom of assembly.2 -

Her courage will change the world.
Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.0 -
Answer is to buy a good set of edging shears, not cheap ones.1

I've bought expensive ones, cheap ones etc, only for them either not to cut, or the handles will fall off after little use.
Bought some Spear and Jackson Razorsharp's last year and they've been the best I've had.

It doesn't take 3 weeks to sharpen them, no idea what this is about either.
Definitely not cheaper to keep buying them -
Spending that much ???
I have no clue what you're buying but it's clearly not quality, stop spending on cheap items and buy quality goods instead.
I'll go out and look at the brand i have, i've had them for 20 years and they're still in good working order.0 -
I bought a set of spear and Jackson edging sheers about 10 years ago and they are still fine. Never been sharpened either. And the handle has certainly never fallen off.
Granted, they don’t get a huge amount of use, maybe every month or so, but they are used to clip along a concrete edge which I can’t imagine does them any favours.Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0 -
@Gobsh
Why look for a electric alternative when with a few basic tools any adjustments and sharpening can be done yourself.
The basic tools would include,
2 x decent sized screwdrivers 1 flathead + 1 starhead
1 x small adjustable spanner
1 x medium adjustable spanner
1 x medium flat file
1 x small round file
1 x club hammer (to act as anvil)
1 x pin hammer
1 x small tub of BP jelly (various uses)
Cannot think of anything else needed to keep most garden tools up to scratch.0
