I have since paid off £2k so balance now £2k but the are still saying they will cancel my card if I dont take out a loan.
Anyone else had this experience or any advice what to do? I dont want to lose the card as the limit is quite handy for a rainy day
It seems like you have ignored their previous letters which will have suggested you increased your monthly repayments to above the minimum, after you ignored those they would then have offered to reduce the interest if you agreed to suspending the card and increasing the minimum payment, having ignored those you are now at stage 3 of pay it off or we close it.

Never just pay minimums. That is indicative of persistent debt.

Thanks for the reply, I only kept a balance on the card as previously when I cleared a card down before they decreased the card limit, even though I have a perfect credit score 997
That's not the reason they decreased your limit.

Presumably before you cleared it down you were running a balance?  That is the most likely reason they decreased the card limit - because they perceived you as a credit risk, and when you cleared down some balance they took the opportunity to reduce that risk.
