She will also be entitled to the cost of living payments for this year. Full details here. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/cost-of-living-payments-2023-to-2024

Does Pension Credit also trigger the Cold Weather payment, or mean that it is paid at a higher rate?
Yes it does at the same rate as all other recipients, £25 per qualifying week.

Definitely worth applying for then. Looks like it’ll just be the savings pension credit bit she gets but the extra benefits it’ll bring sound great!

I had a look and in Scotland it's not the Cold Weather payment, but a Winter Heating Payment which is £50 per season and doesn't rely on a spell of cold weather, it's standard.  That's on top of the Winter Fuel Payment which is paid at a higher rate for those on Pension Credit.

Ah, the element that qualifies people for Cost of Living etc. is usually the Guarantee Credit element.

Still worth applying even if it definitely is only the Savings Credit element as it may entitle her to some things.  You'd have to check each possibility individually.

My Mum was in receipt of Savings Pension Credit and it didn't give her entitlement to dental, eyecare and all the other things that come with Guaranteed Pension Credit.

Thanks all! Ahh yes I’ve just looked into this. She would still qualify for a free TV license as you get this with either guarantee or savings pension credit. And I think she’d also also qualify for a cost of living payment coming out soon.
But no dental, eye care etc.
I think even the free TV license makes this worth the while. She was a very angry pensioner being made to pay for this again!!! 🤣

Me again!! I’ve just tried to apply for the small amount of pension credit online through the government website. It’s not asking for any information regarding her private pension though. (Although it does ask this information on the calculator). Is this a bit weird? I’ve gone through it all almost to the end a few times and am definitely answering each section correctly. Thanks again!!

    question 132

Do you or your partner get a private pension, money from a place where you used to work or any other pension?

I also see the above question on the paper form….but it doesn’t get asked when I go through the questions online. It’s very strange. I don’t want to submit the application without declaring the private pension. It’s like it’s missing something out online.
