Elite singles - auto renew and issues with the app

Hi there,
there have been posts on this is the past but little shared on the outcome of disputes that I can see. I tried to cancel my premium membership with Elite Singles several weeks before the renewal date, using the app. I thought nothing of it until I saw that they had taken payment from my bank
account. I immediately emailed them to say I had tried to cancel the subscription via the app and they asked that I send them ‘proof’ which of course I do not have. I tried to escalate and appeal the decision to not refund but they refused. I went to my bank who withdrew the payment using the direct debit guarantee. I am now being chased by the collections company for payment and they are threatening additional fines and impact on credit rating. Has anyone had an experience of this company and any advice or should I just pay the robbing b******.

Thanks in advanceYou say you tried to cancel your membership. Did the app actually say it was cancelled and sent you an email after confirming that? Were you paying a monthly subscription via Direct Debt? Was you within a contract period?

I’ve contacted Apple, as it was also
done through them. No email was sent, I guess it is something that I have always trusted would happen when I attempted to cancel? I had never paid a subscription before and was not aware that the direct debit had been set up. There was a three month contract period that they auto renewed and apparently the auto renew is on their contract.

What details did you give them when you joined. Card or Bank account?
I do not think this is a DD. Especially given the mention of Apple. That indicates card payment. As such this would be a continuous payment authority taken via card details.Life in the slow lane1 -

No point in a separate thread when this OP's situation is already being discussed.Jenni x0
