Work it out yourself, using last years consumption figures to see if the direct debit really is a saving rather than just deferring the cost. There's not a lot of point in having a lowered direct debit that doesn't cover you consumption and then ending up with a debit of several hundred pounds later on in the year because the DD was too low.
You need to do the sums based on your annual consumption (rather than an estimate) multiplied by the tariff rather than just looking at the direct debit amount. Dont be fooled by a slightly lower standing charge compared with a slightly more expensive tariff.
An extra 10p on the standing charge equates to £36.50 a year whereas just an extra 1p per kwh on the tariff could end up being a lot more than that if your consumption is over 3650 kwh a year
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers2 -

It's almost ironic, because the single rate for Eastern is the third or fourth most expensive.Scot_39 said:

Octopus is which magazines 2023 top energy supplier. They're a super company.Tigger448 said:I’m with EDF paying £319 a month DD. I’ve looked at Octopus who are quoting a DD of £203 per month.Octopus are slightly more expensive per unit for gas/electricity but are cheaper on the daily standing charge than EDF.I’m not on a fixed tariff as I had to move from utility point when the ceased trading. Looking for advice please0
